Appropriation in Art
Drawing on work from the museum’s collection, this display looks at how modern and contemporary artists have self-consciously appropriated well-known imagery by other artists and designers in their own work. In doing so, they challenge art’s place in society, deliberately bringing well-worn notions of artistic originality, inspiration and influence into question.
