Mark Boyle and Joan Hills have collaborated since the 1960s. They have since been joined by their children Sebastian and Georgia in the creation of their extraordinarily detailed ‘earth studies’ – exacting replicas of randomly selected of patches of ground, turned into artworks for the gallery walls. This exhibition follows on from a major retrospective at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in 2003, and includes new earth studies alongside photography, video and time-lapse film.
This exhibition runs in conjunction with ‘Memorious Earth: A Longitudinal Study’, also at Abbot Hall Art Gallery.
