Reuniting Two Decorative Paintings by Édouard Vuillard
Édouard Vuillard is best known for his easel paintings of intimate scenes of Parisian domestic life. Yet his most important contributions to modern art are his large-scaledécorations, or mural-like paintings made to decorate specific interiors. Commissioned by friends and clients for their homes, none remain in situ, and most of the paintings have been dispersed into public and private collections. This exhibition brings together two halves of one of the artist’s most important early decorative ensembles: First Fruits, on loan from the Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena, California, and the Art Institute’sWindow Overlooking the Woods.
