Surrealism and Magic

Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University, Ithaca

NOW CLOSED

The Surrealists turned frequently to magic, the supernatural and spirituality in their work. This exhibition – a collaboration with Cornell Library’s Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections – takes a closer look at this side to their practice. It draws particularly on items from the archive of the artist Kurt Seligmann, which are displayed alongside works by André Breton, Leonora Carrington, Max Ernst, René Magritte and Dorothea Tanning, among others.
