The Musée d’Orsay is best known for its collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings but it also has a valuable archive of artists’ letters, notebooks and commentary. Plenty of material, then, for Jenny Holzer, whose art frequently involves text writ large in public places. Holzer has drawn from the museum’s holdings to create several monumental text installations – projected on to the building’s facade along the Seine, engraved in marble columns and beamed through electronic displays (20 October–21 February 2027). Her work also appears in four painting galleries – including the room of history paintings, which Holzer has curated to focus not on religious or mythological scenes but on depictions of conflict, in line with her interest in memorials and anti-memorials.
