Introducing Rakewell, Apollo’s wandering eye on the art world. Look out for regular posts taking a rakish perspective on art and museum stories
Rakewell is tickled to learn that Southwark Park Galleries, formerly CGP London, is celebrating its 35th anniversary with an exhibition about dogs. But this isn’t any old dog show: for once, it’s the pooches that have taken the lead, with a clutch of cultured canine curators – the furry companions of gallerist Karsten Schubert, critic Louisa Buck and others, no less – invited by the organisers to ‘select their top dog-related artworks’. The waggish display includes works by Joan Jonas, Martin Creed, Heather Phillipson and Lucian Freud. In short, a veritable chiennale!
Any of you gallerist pups feeling envious? Have no fear. Rakewell is on hand with a list of dogged curators who must be waiting to unleash their very own Arts and Crufts exhibitions:
Klaus Biesenbark
Spaniel Birnbaum
Glenn Bowwowry
Nicholas Collienan
Germano Shepherd Celant
Mastiffiliano Gioni
Ruff Rugoff
Get on the dog and bone to one of them today! Only if Hounds Ulrich Obrist isn’t available, that is…
