Introducing Rakewell, Apollo’s wandering eye on the art world. Look out for regular posts taking a rakish perspective on art and museum stories.
At a press conference last week to reveal details of Tate Modern’s new extension, Nicholas Serota stated that Frances Morris has, as of the beginning of the month, been installed as the museum’s director. It was previously announced that Morris’s predecessor Chris Dercon was to stand down in 2017, although Tate brought that date forward to an unspecified point later in 2016 when it announced Morris’s appointment. But at the time of writing, the Tate website still has Dercon in the director’s office at Tate Modern. So just who is in charge at Bankside now?
