Ibrahim Mahama


Ibrahim Mahama was born in 1987 in Tamale, Ghana, and lives and works in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale. He has had solo exhibitions at institutions around the world, including the Barbican in London, the High Line in New York and Kunsthalle Wien. He also exhibited at Documenta in 2017 and was one of the exhibitors at the inaugural Ghana pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2019; he also had work included at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2023.

Mahama was named Principal Prince Claus Laureate in 2020, received the inaugural Sam Gilliam Award in 2024 and in 2025 won the gold medal in the Established Artist category of the Art Basel Awards. He was included in Apollo’s 40 Under 40 in 2017 and 2020.

Mahama is represented by Apalazzo Gallery and White Cube.
