36 | Founder, König Gallery, Berlin, Germany
Johann König opened his gallery in Berlin in 2002 when he was just 21 – a precocious achievement in itself, but all the more audacious given that he is partially blind. The gallery quickly gained a reputation for representing leading young artists – its stable now boasts Helen Marten, Camille Henrot and Amalia Pica, among others – and for promoting them through exhibitions at prestigious international institutions. In 2015, König opened a second space in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin at St Agnes church, a brutalist building that has been impressively remodelled by architect Arno Brandlhuber.
