Ghanaian brothers Kwame and Kobi Mintah set up Efie Gallery alongside their mother Valentina Mintah in 2021; the gallery moved into its current permanent location in Dubai’s Al Quoz Creative Zone in 2022. Since then, the gallery has established itself as a key contributor to the growing momentum across the Middle East for establishing connections with the art of Africa and its diaspora – underscored by its opening in April 2025 of a new 410 sqm space on Alserkal Avenue, also in Al Quoz, designed in collaboration with Dubai-based architect Suhaira Yousif. Taking its name from the Twi word for ‘home’, Efie Gallery promotes contemporary artists from Africa and its diaspora, including the Ghanaian sculptor El Anatsui and the Cuban-born artist María Magdalena Campos-Pons. It runs a residency programme and maintains an extensive collection of rare vinyl and shellac records.
