Consultant, Sotheby’s, Cairo
Mai Eldib joined Sotheby’s New York in 2008, working on 19th-century paintings and jewellery. In 2010 she moved to Cairo, from where she travels extensively across the Middle East and North Africa on behalf of the auction house; she has laid the ground for a number of record-breaking sales of modern Egyptian artists. Eldib is closely involved in the promotion of modern and contemporary Egyptian art, sitting on the advisory board of MASS Alexandria, an art education space founded by Wael Shawky, and supporting young Egyptian artists through study programmes and grants. She has worked closely with curators – including with Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, on their acclaimed touring exhibition examining Surrealism in Egypt.
