Beijing
Born in Inner Mongolia, Nabuqi creates theatrical ‘simulations’ of environments that explore the relationship between the real and artificial, the familiar and the uncanny. Her work is at once conceptually dense and yet disarmingly playful; her recent exhibition at the West Bund Museum consisted of an environment akin to an indoor playground, complete with a swing that visitors could use. Audience participation has been an integral part of other projects, such as the room-sized kinetic installation Object No. 3 (2014); her art is, at root, concerned with reimagining the ways in which we interact with the world around us. Nabuqi’s work has been exhibited at the Asia Society Museum in New York, the Guangdong Times Museum in Guangzhou, the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing and the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019.
