Postcards from the Future

The Norwegian city of Trondheim lies a few hundred miles below the Arctic Circle and boasts a rich artistic heritage – not least the Nidarosdomen, the world’s northernmost medieval cathedral. Now its former post office building, designed by Karl Norum in the 1910s in the art nouveau style, has been repurposed as a new modern and contemporary art museum by architects India Mahdavi and Erik Langdalen. The private museum has been funded by Monica and Ole Robert Reitan, owners of the Reitan Retail conglomerate, and contains works from their collection by Louise Bourgeois, Katharina Fritsch, Sol LeWitt, Anne Imhof and Simone Leigh, among others. PoMo’s opening exhibition, ‘Postcards From The Future’ features around 100 works from the collection as well as loans from various museums and private collections (15 February–22 June).
