At the height of the 2008 financial crash, even the most committed risk-taker might have baulked at Rachel Uffner’s plan to open a new gallery in the Lower East Side. Fortunately, the gamble paid off, and her gallery is now a go-to venue to see some of the most exciting new art in New York – with Uffner hailed for her impact in resuscitating the area’s art scene. The buzz around the gallery’s roster of emerging artists has since shown no sign of dying down, and in 2014 the business relocated from its original home on Orchard Street to larger premises nearby.
