Sebastian Gladstone

Flying in the face of the contraction of the Los Angeles gallery scene over the last couple of the years, Sebastian Gladstone moved in August 2025 to a new 300 sqm venue in Hollywood – less than a year after opening his first New York outpost in Tribeca. The gallery’s latest space opened with a display of paintings by Herman Cherry (1909–92), an LA-born painter who rose to prominence among the New York School in 1950s but whose crisp, cool abstractions have since been largely forgotten. Cherry’s is the first artist’s estate taken on by Gladstone; it is evidence of the gallery’s ambition to represent high-quality works at lower prices than the major blue-chips. Gladstone’s roster of 15 artists includes the sculptor Emmanuel Louisnord Desir and the painter Emma McMillan. At Frieze Los Angeles in 2025 the gallery sold a work by Desir to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
