Founder, Nova Contemporary, Bangkok
Sutima Junko Sucharitakul founded the art gallery Nova Contemporary in 2016 with the aim of promoting a culture of artistic exchange within Southeast Asia and beyond. Over the last few years, the gallery has played a key role in developing the market for contemporary art in Bangkok, and in providing exhibition opportunities for Thai artists from a wide range of disciplines; recent solo shows have been held for the fantastical installations of contemporary weaver Ploenchan Vinyaratn and the geometric abstractions of Somboon Hormtientong. The gallery has also staged exhibitions of work by Pinaree Sanpitak, who became the first female Thai artist to be included in the main exhibition at the Venice Biennale this year. Located in an old school building at the centre of the city, the gallery has exhibited at Art Basel Hong Kong, S.E.A. Focus, Liste, ART021, Art Jakarta and Art Stage Singapore; its artists have shown at Documenta 14, the Asia Pacific Triennial in Queensland and the Bangkok Art Biennale.
