While museums around the world are shuttered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Apollo’s usual weekly pick of exhibition openings will be replaced by a selection of digital initiatives providing virtual access to art and culture.
While the doors to Australia’s most famous building are shut, audiences all around the world can watch past performances and talks on the Sydney Opera House website. Every week, from Wednesday to Sunday, five new full-length videos are added to the site – with previous releases still available to watch on-demand. The multi-venue Opera House complex has a wide-ranging programme, taking in classical music, opera, modern ballet, contemporary music, Aboriginal dance, and more. This means there’s a real variety of material to enjoy: from Bach’s Goldberg Variations, performed by the Australian Chamber Orchestra in 2018, to the Bangarra Dance Theatre’s production of Bennelong, the story of the first Aboriginal man to make a return trip to Europe.
