Designed in 1992 specifically for the large exhibition gallery at the Kunsthaus Zürich, Walter De Maria’s The 2000 Sculpture comprises 2,000 white plaster rods, each with a different number of edges, laid out in 20 rows. The orientation and rhythm of the rods appear to shift in relation to the viewer, with the visual effect changing according to the daylight that reaches the work from the gallery’s windows and glass ceiling. Taking up 500 square metres, it is among the largest horizontal sculptures designed for indoor display. The loan display runs from 27 August–20 February 2022; find out more from the Kunsthaus Zürich’s website.
