Pennsylvania German Fraktur from the Joan and Victor Johnson Collection

A celebration of the American folk art ‘fraktur’ – whimsically decorated Germanic documents recognisable by their ‘fractured’ style of lettering. The art form emerged in Philadelphia with the arrival of German-speaking immigrants in the 18th century.
