The Barnes Series
The first artist commissioned to make work for the Barnes Foundation since Matisse, Pat Steir has created a suite of 11 two-metre-high Waterfall paintings, created by pouring and flinging paint on to canvas, to hang in the Barnes’s Annenberg Court. Having risen to prominence with paintings that paired image and text in New York in the 1970s, Steir began creating these abstract ‘waterfalls’ the following decade.
