A world of private mystery

Craxton once shared a studio with Lucian Freud and is associated with neo-Romantic painters such as Graham Sutherland, but his own work remains little known outside specialist circles. This retrospective features over 60 of the artist’s works, from his dark post-war paintings, to the vibrant compositions he created after settling in Crete in 1960.
